The focus of Task Catcher is existing programs which routinely run on your system. Our first version includes specific features which are designed to help you manage when and how programs run.
WinPatrol is a more full featured application designed to monitor changes by unknown or expected applications. WinPatrol is more interested in changes which occur to system files or the Windows registry. Task Catcher pays attention to programs which are actively running.

No, the freely downloadable version of Task Catcher is a demo of the features available. You can see how easy it is to create Watch Lists and Black Lists but monitoring using R.I.D. is only available to registered users.

Unfortunately, some programs have incorrectly indicated that Scotty is a keystroke spy. Task Catcher includes the file PatrolPro.dll which uses a common Windows function called SetWindowsHook. This standard API function allows Lady Scotty to monitor certain activities. The generic function is used by Windows to monitor a variety of actions including mouse clicks, internal messages, keystrokes, syscommands, etc... Task Catcher uses it to be notified when a new window is about to be created. A new window is one of the triggers used by R.I.D. to indicate a possible change in active tasks.
Task Catcher does not log this event and will never communicate with the internet unless you specifically request information.

Having Task Catcher available in the taskbar is optional. Open up the main tab interface and click on the Options tab. You'll see a check box which will make Lady available on the taskbar.
